On Saturday 8 November, Prior's Court came together for a gentle fireworks night. The evening was planned with our autistic young people with complex needs in mind, and with care for our neighbours and local wildlife. The result was a calm, welcoming celebration that many told us felt reassuring and joyful.

Forefront Fireworks delivered a quiet display that focused on colour, movement and pacing rather than volume. The sequence was thoughtfully designed so everyone knew what to expect. Nova Events Ltd added a beautiful fire dance that offered a steady visual focus. Many young people found the warm light and movement engaging, and it provided a comfortable warm up to the main event.

We made sure there were clear viewing areas with space to move, quieter zones, and access to ear defenders and sensory supports. Pathways were gently lit to keep the site easy to navigate without glare. Trained colleagues were on hand to support regulation and transitions, and the running order was shared in advance so families could plan what would work best.

It was wonderful to welcome young people’s families, staff families, alumni and guests. Familiar faces and familiar spaces helped to create a relaxed atmosphere.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to the colleagues who planned and supported the evening. Our thanks also go to Forefront Fireworks and Nova Events Ltd for delivering with sensitivity and skill. We will keep learning from feedback so that future celebrations remain safe, accessible and enjoyable for autistic young people with complex needs, and for the community around us.

This event and many like it are funded by our Enriching Experiences appeal. If you would like to learn more about our approach to sensory friendly events or to support future activities, please get in touch.
